The Lewis & Clark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee put on their fifth annual Cash and Coin Drive on Feb. 20, which lasted for 48 hours and raisesd money for the Special Olympics. SAAC has held a strong relationship with the Special Olympics Organization and helps to put on many events for the group at LC. Last year, SAAC raised $4,100 towards Special Olympics by reaching out to students, teachers and the community.

This year, all 19 varsity teams collaborated to collect as many donations on and off campus as possible, in order to raise more money than last year’s donation. SAAC used many tactics. Student-Athletes stormed the dorms and asked LC students for donations to the organization. They also teamed up and went through faculty buildings to visit professor’s offices and ask for donations. In addition to that, SAAC provided coffee and donuts in the morning and grilled hot dogs during lunch, as well as a silent auction during the Men’s and Women’s Basketball games.

SAAC also put on a specific Green Challenge for the varsity teams to encourage collecting more donations. The Green Challenge gave incentive to teams to collect more money than their 18 varsity opponents. The winning team was the Men’s and Women’s Golf Team, who took the lead in money collected per player.

Overall, SAAC collected $4,855.08 which beat last year’s donations by over $700. This total beat every other Northwest Conference team’s donations. For four out of five years, LC has been the leader in donations for the Cash and Coin Drive. This is also the third year in a row that LC has beat every other team in the conference.
